IEC is short for Import Export Code. It is a 10-digit code issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Government of India, to any person or entity who wishes to import or export goods or services from India.

Here is the step by step process to apply for Import Export License online.

1. Where to apply for import export license?

To start the process of getting your Import Export license,

Create an account on the DGFT portal.

1. Head to https://www.dgft.gov.in/CP/#
2. On the top right – click on ‘Login’ and select ‘Register’ on the popup.
3. Fill up the following details
   • Register User As – Importer/Exporter
   • First Name & Last Name
   • Email ID & Mobile No.
   • Pin code – Entering the pin code of your address will automatically fill up the remaining details.
   • Captcha Code
4. Click on Send OTP and verify email and mobile
5. Temporary password will be sent to you on your email (Your email is the user id)
6. Login using the temporary login details and set a new password

You have now successfully created your account and can now apply for DGFT license.

Import Export License Procedure

Follow these steps to submit your Import Export Code application

1. Head to the DGFT Portal & login
   • Steps to create DGFT account
2. Click on “Apply IEC” & then on “start fresh application”.
3. IEC application form also known as ANF-2A will be on your screen with the following modules, fill up the form as per instructions
   • General Information
   • Details of Proprietor/Partner/Director
   • Bank Information
   • Other Details (Preferred sector of operations)
   • Declaration
   • Application Summary
4. Preview the application once
5. Submit the form & sign it using Adhaar E Sign or DSC
6. Pay the Govt. Fees – Rs. 500
7. The IEC will be auto approved in a few hours.

To download your IEC –

1. Login to your DGFT account
2. On the Home section, click on My IEC
3. Click on Print IEC and save your IEC copy.

Note: You won’t get a hard copy of your IEC. Take a print out of the soft copy and it shall be enough anytime you need to attach your IEC.
